ISO 9141 to MODBus?

Hey all,

this is my first post. Just wondering if there is such a protocol converter for ISO 9141 to MODBus?

Plan is to gather data from the OBD II port into a PLC.

Thanks for reading. biggrin

Hi,

I'm not familiar with a 9141-to-modbus converter, and I doubt a single commercial device exists. However this is something you can easily program yourself!

How you proceed depends if you want a fast or an average solution.

Average: Write a PC host \"bridge\" system using an ISO 9141 hardware and modbus hardware. Your program can change the data packets appropriately for each bus type.

Use a PassThru? (J2534) compliant device to read/write any automotive bus including ISO 9141, ISO 14230, CAN, J1850, ISO 15765, and others. I would recommend DrewTech\'s CarDAQ2534 which uses a fast ethernet host interface. Simply read the 9141 data into your Labview application, then output it on modbus.

Really Fast: DrewTech? also makes CarDAQ-Plus with onboard embedded Linux. Since modbus sits on RS-232 you could use its ISO 9141 connection and its internal RS-232 to program a standalone converter. This would be a lot faster since there is no overhead of a desktop/laptop application.

Check out our website www.drewtech.com or drop me an email for more info.
